JAMES COOPER, President, 2008:

Mr. Cooper is a Career Education Specialist for Business, Marketing, DCT, IT for Palm Beach County School District. Previously, he was the lead teacher of the International Business Academy at Royal Palm Beach High School, where he has taught for 4 ½ years trying to provide students with real world experiences. Mr. Cooper currently serves as the President-Elect for the Florida Business Technology Educators Association. In 2007, he was named Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Local Teacher of the Year for Palm Beach County. In 2006, he was named Conference Basketball Coach of the year. Mr. Cooper received his Bachelors degree in Finance and MIS and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa in May 1996 and May 2001, respectively. With a continued spirit of improvement, he is currently pursuing his doctorate in Education Leadership at FAU. He is a member of , Florida Association of Career and Technical Education, Southern Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, and International Society of Business Education.

   
LINDA ROBINSON, Secretary, 2008

Linda Robinson is in her 26 th year of teaching after taking a hiatus for five years during the 1980’s as the owner/operator of a retail formal and bridal wear shop. After teaching for 15 years in Virginia, she moved to Florida in 1997 and has been at Winter Haven High School, Winter Haven, FL since. She teaches Business Software Applications, Web Design 2-3, Computing for College and Careers, and Computer Technology of Travel and Tourism. She serves as the director for the newly organized Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at WHHS. Linda serves as FBLA and DECA adviser and the school’s webmaster. She is a tech coach for the Polk County Public School system and is an adjunct instructor for Polk Community College’s Educator Preparation Institute and Webber International University as a computer applications and presentations instructor. She earned a BS degree from Milligan College with a double major in Business Administration and Office Administration and a minor in Business Education. Her MAED is from East Carolina University in Instructional Technology. She has served FBTEA as President Elect, President, and Past President and is a member of NBEA. She is a regular presenter at business and technology education conferences such as NBEA

   
DUANE HUME, DOE Supervisor

I came to the position of State Supervisor for Business/IT/STEM Education from the private sector bringing with me over 25 years of firsthand experience in the fields of education and technology, including designing and developing technical training for clients such as Novell, IBM, and the U.S. Navy. Since retiring from the Navy in 1988, I have watched the face of technology change dramatically and have been primarily focused on the computer, information technology, and networking industries with heavy emphasis on the electronic publishing and Internet technologies. During my tenure in the Navy, I earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from San Diego State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University.

   
DR. CAROL BOURKE , Community College/University Representative

Dr. Carol O. Bourke,is in her 25 th year of teaching at Brevard Community College, Cocoa, Florida, is professor and Technologies Department Chairperson. She received the Bachelor of Science from Olivet Nazarene College, Kankakee, Illinois; Master of Arts from Governors State University, University Park, Illinois; and the Doctor of Education from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida.
Awards received include the 2008 NBEA Postsecondary Teacher of the Year and 2003 SBEA Postsecondary Teacher of the Year. In addition, she received the 2001 Sunshine Award from Florida Business Technology Education Association for her leadership and dedication to the association and profession. She also received the 2001 Postsecondary Teacher of the Year Award from FBTEA and the Hulda Erath Award in 1997 from the Southern Business Education Association. She served the Southern Region as SBEA Membership Director, (2003-2005) President Elect, President, and Past President. As President of SBEA, Carol served as a board member representing the southern region to the National Business Education Association . She has served Florida Business Technology Education Association as Community College Representative, Membership Director, Secretary, President-Elect, President, and Past-President. She was 2002 NBEA Postsecondary Program Chair. Memberships include Florida Business Technology Education Association, Florida Association of Career and Technical Education, Southern Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, ISBE (International Society of Business Education), Association of Career and Technical Education, and Kappa Delta Pi. In the local community, Dr. Bourke is a board member on the Space Coast World Trade Council.
